Secretariat
Secretariat is a story based on real life events. It tells the story of Penny Chanery's and an American thoroughbred horse famous in 1973, which won the Triple Crown tournament in the United States. Secretariat tells the story of Penny from two very different levels: the personal and the professional.
Penny was a housewife before her mother died and his father became ill. At that point She decided to work on the states of his father in Virginia, USA, entering the world of horse racing, and eventually became the first woman to win the Triple Crown, next to a veteran horse trainer and his friend Lucien Laurin. This resounding success was unexpected.
Penny, being a housewife, was a woman devoted and completely dedicated to her home. When she entered the world of horses, living in a patriarchal society, her husband and daughters turn away and do not gave her the support she needed. Lucien, then, became her friend giving her all the moral support and knowledge she needed to be an entrepreneur woman and fulfilling her dreams. This distance with her family is very difficult position for Penny because she also gave up living key moments in the life of her family, for example, when her oldest daughter makes her debut as a singer. However, this separation of the family has a reward at the end of this story, where distance, time and especially the entrepreneurial spirit of Penny manages to make her family appreciate more than ever the woman she is as mother and wife.
Penny used to be a submissive and marginalized woman besides her husband, typical behavior of the age in which she lived, but with the drastic changes that she suffered (the death of her mother and her ill father) Penny decided to take control of her life as a working woman, and brings up the dream of their parents, which inspires her be a prominent woman recognized during the period in which they lived, gaining her admiration by those who are involved in the horse racing environment.
This film brings a great message, where you can see that with bravery and courage is possible to achieve the dreams, regardless of the shortcomings encountered on the road, and anything with love is possible. It is also important to note that Penny never abandoned her family, her dedication as a mother and wife made possible that she could achieve the success and recognition of her family and society.
